Pandora Internet Radio
$36.00
Released January, 2001
The Pros:Completely interoperable. Free service includes all features of paid service. Huge music database; listeners rarely hear a repeat song.
The Cons:Music tailored to your tastes can sandbox users from finding other interesting genres. Tons of ads. That is, big, bloaty ads.
Pandora internet radio is exactly what it sounds like. Simple web streaming, easily accessable from any computer. But being based on the Internet Genome Project, Pandora uses a database of music assosciations to stream music similar to your tastes.
The basic service is free, but is ad-supported, which can cause problems on slower connections. For $36 annually, ad-free service is availible, and also is supported on some Sprint phones and Sonos players.
