The multi-stage design of this thermostat means that you can have certain rooms or areas heated while other rooms or areas are cooled. While the 1F85-0422 can have two rooms or areas heated and two cooled in its heat pump setting, the 1F85-0471 can have three rooms heated and two cooled. The multi-stage setting of both thermostats allows two rooms or areas to be heated while two are cooled. You can program the 1F85-0471 for five days and then two single days, or for five days and then two days together. You can also choose to not program it, and make adjustments to the temperature as you wish. The display of this thermostat is four square inches of blue screen, and you can power it with either hardwired or battery power. Like all of Emerson's programmable thermostats, the Emerson Blue 1F85-0471 is made for use with 24 VAC systems.
